Tod Schneider, Safe School Design, Eugene Police
Tod moved from New York to Oregon in 1971. Although he makes frequent forays into the outer world, he has been based in Eugene ever since, where he plays guitar and avoids yardwork. He is married and is gradually sending his kids out to save the world. Wife Connie plays the gamba and recorder, writes fiction and helps elders write their biographies. Miles is at College of Wooster, Ohio, studying music and neuroscience, or something like that. Tim is at the University of Oregon, double majoring in English and Political Science, but really writing film noir scripts and running the film club. Leon graduated from Carleton College in Minnesota and is now teaching hospitals how to use data management software for Epic in Madison, Wisconsin, although he’s thinking about tossing it all aside and teaching English in Turkey. All three are ultimate Frisbee fanatics.
Tod has worked as a crime prevention specialist at the Eugene Police Department for the past 21 years. He also founded Safe School Design, which provides consulting and training throughout the United States on all aspects of school design. In addition he provides seminars on confrontation management, personal safety and de-escalation on a regular basis.
Current projects include editing the Safe Cascadia newsletter, as well as writing and editing for the National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities, and providing child abuse disclosure training for school employees. Upcoming trainings cover confrontation management for medical assistants, park workers, public housing staff and foster care home visitors. Contact information:
